گرو ارجن دیو جی سکھ مذہب کے پہلے شہید کہلائے جاتے ہیں۔ سکھ مذہب کے 10 اماموں (گرو) میں انکا پانچواں درجہ ہے۔ یاد رہے سکھ مذہب کے سب سے بڑے امام بابا گرو نانک ہیں۔ ان دس گروؤں نے سکھ مذہب کی کتاب "گرو گرنتھ صاحب" کمپائیل کی تھی۔ گرو ارجن سکھ مذہب کے بھر پور سیاسی ایکٹویسٹ تھے اس وجہ سے مخالفت میں مغل بادشاہ جہانگیر نے انکو راویتی آپشن دی کہ مسلمان ہو جاؤ یا پھر مرنے کے لیئے تیار ہو جاؤ۔ گرو ارجن نے اپنے لیئے موت قبول کی اور یوں سکھ مذہب کے پہلے شہید قرار پائے۔
بادشاہی مسجد لاہور سے ملحق گوردوارہ ڈیرہ صاحب گرو ارجن دیو کی یاد میں مہارجہ رنجیت سنگھ نے تعمیر کروایا جہاں گرو ارجن کو سزائے موت دی گئی تھی اور سزائے موت والی جگہ پر بعد میں گرو ہرگوبند نے ایک تھڑا (پلیٹ فارم) بنوایا۔

Guru Arjan Dev Ji is known as the first martyr of the Sikh religion. He holds the Fifth position among the Ten Gurus of the Sikh religion. It's important to note that Guru Nanak is the foremost Guru of the Sikh religion. These ten Gurus compiled the Sikh religion's scripture, known as "Guru Granth Sahib." Guru Arjan Dev was a staunch political activist within the Sikh religion, which led to opposition from the Mughal Emperor Jahangir. Jahangir gave him the option to convert to Islam or be prepared to face death. Guru Arjan Dev accepted death for himself, thus becoming the first martyr of the Sikh religion.
Adjacent to the Royal Mosque in Lahore stands Gurudwara Dera Sahib, constructed by Maharaja Ranjeet Singh in memory of Guru Arjan Dev. It was here that Guru Arjan Dev was sentenced to death, and later, Guru Hargobind erected a platform (Thara or Plinth) at the site of his execution.
